A.B.Dick UK has installed a Presstek Dimension 400 platesetter at The Riverside Printing Company in Reading.
CTP System Passes Test On Live Retail Print Job
When the Square Group in London seriously started looking for a computer-to-plate system, it set A B Dick a big challenge.
When the time came to replace our film imagesetter, we knew that CTP was the answer as we wanted to increase our productivity.
Initially, a chemistry free process was not at the very top of our agenda and we looked at two other conventional platesetters before comparing them with the Dimension 400.
We sent files to each of the suppliers and the quality of the plates received was excellent.
What we liked about the Dimension was its compact size, added to which the chemistry-free solution was a definite bonus in many ways.
As well as saving on the cost of the chemicals and their disposal, my operators have been cleaning out processors for over 20 years and I wanted to give them a break," said Frank Benzies, Culross's managing director.
"A B Dick has been supportive where we've needed it because the installation went very smoothly.
We were up and running and in production in just over a day.
We've already seen the benefits of CTP.
We had a calendar job, that required 54 plates to be made in a day.
While that would have been impossible to achieve in the past, it was just in the course of a day's work for the Dimension," he added.
He continued to say that the Culross staff said that it is a great improvement.
As well as speeding up production, the quality of the plates was very good and the company has reduced the make ready time on the four colour press to as little as 10 minutes.
