Two-Colour Hamada Press Reduces Outsourcing

A Presstek product story

Before buying an Hamada B252A two colour press with a DPM 2508 polyester platemaker, the Corporate Services Group's (CSG) Print Division was outsourcing at least 30 per cent of its production.

Before buying an Hamada B252A two colour press with a DPM 2508 polyester platemaker, the Corporate Services Group's (CSG) Print Division was outsourcing at least 30 per cent of its production.

"The limitations of our previous equipment meant that we were unable to achieve the pinpoint accuracy required to print the company's four colour logo found on most of the corporate stationery.

We also had problems printing the solid blue of the Blue Arrow stationery, which is the flagship company of the Group," commented David Morton, Print Divisions's print manager.

The Print Division produces corporate stationery, record cards and pads for the CSG's 200 branches around the country and for its head office in Luton.

The company was an early user of the A B Dick's Digital Platemaster 2000 polyester platesetter bundled with an A B Dick 9995 press.

Morton explained: "We did look at a couple of other presses that were outside our budget but the decision was a straight forward one because A B Dick gave us a good trade in value.

The company swapped over the DPM 2000 capstan platesetter and A B Dick 9995 portrait press for the Hamada landscape press with a DPM 2508 larger format, internal drum polyster platesetter, which gives far better quality and performance on press.

The Hamada press has been able to handle everything we have given it, including solid colours and reversed out type.

The DPM 2000 used two different size rolls of plate material but now we can produce all our polyester plates on the 2508 from one roll of plate material, which is more cost effective.

One average we run out 250 plates a month." He said that although the company does not print 100 per cent of CSG's requirements, it had saved time and money in being able to print all its stationery.

It also gave Print Division more control and flexibility in having the equipment in-house, particularly if there was an urgent job that needed turning round very quickly.
