The first issue of the new Austrian daily newspaper Osterreich has appeared on the market, with production partly driven by the ACC HSH Group's Puzzleflow workflow system.
ACC HSH's Puzzleflow was provided by Lewald and Partner, the German distributor for ACC HSH Group.
Osterreich is a newspaper with a circulation of 350,000 copies with a capacity of 96 full-colour pages, printed either on typical newsprint or glossy magazine-quality paper.
The production of the daily is partly driven by the Puzzleflow and is implemented as a bridge between the DTI editorial system (in which the newspaper is designed) and PPI imposition software.
The standard PDF document produced is the output format of the DTI system.
Before it is sent for imposition, Webpairer processes the job.
The ACC HSH Group's program is responsible for the optimisation and correction of the PDF documents, page scaling and configuration of pages within the colour management process.
As a result, an appropriately checked and processed PDF file is generated, after which the files are sent for imposition.
Daily production is realised on a single, 4-CPU server equipped with 25 input queues.
Every queue is a separate workflow, designed by Lewald and Partner's programmers, with Puzzleflow responsible for the logicistical work of the system, such as the naming of files during processing.
Fellner Medien, the owners of Osterreich also bought other programs from ACC HSH Group.
In its daily production it uses PDF Preflighter for verifying jobs and the Webmanager module for controlling the production process by multiple users.
Webmanager is additionally integrated with the company's intranet system.
Fellner Medien belongs to Wolfgang Fellner who is a completely new operator in the Austrian newspaper market.
Osterreich's daily average circulation exceeds 350,000 copies on weekdays and 700,000 copies at weekends, whilst 85,000 copies of the whole circulation are purchased by subscription.
Osterreich is a compact-size daily, with full-colour pages only, so it looks more like a magazine than a regular newspaper, said ACC HSH.
Several sections are printed on a glossy paper and also stitched.
Unlike normal newspapers, these are daily sections with daily headlines, created and published just like the other sections of the newspaper.
As a result readers receive a mix of a typical newspaper and a luxury magazine.
Osterreich consists of a 40-page national section, two 24-page regional sections (both printed on newsprint) and two 16-page magazine-like sections.
