The report revealed that a significant number of respondents reported print costs were on the rise and print spend accounts for, on average, four-to-six per cent of operating expenses, with several key industries, such as publishing, consumer products and financial services, reporting a much higher percentage.
Forty-one per cent of print is purchased 'off-contract', whilst 80 per cent of respondents are manually sourcing, or purchasing print materials and service, were other findings.
However, at the same time, approximately 67 per cent of respondents classified as 'best in class' enterprises are using some form of automated print purchasing process, whilst consistency and maintenance of brand image is a critical factor for companies looking to refine their print purchasing processes.

Print management specialist Charterhouse finalised its acquisition of Intelligent Print Solutions (IPS), a print management operation based in Tonbridge, Kent(UK) yesterday.
The report, titled 'Category Spend Management: Print and Print Services' is available for download via the Accessplus website.
Accessplus said that the report examined the processes, technology priorities and strategic actions of 138 enterprises, complied from an online survey and telephone interviews with marketing and procurement executives.
Jason Cromack, chief executive officer of Accessplus, said: "This report provides a wide-ranging assessment of the current state of the print procurement market.
The aim of the study was to identify best practises for print procurement and provide a framework for enterprises to assess their own contract management capabilities." He explained: "The report reiterates our own experience of the print procurement market and identifies both current issues and the key drivers and opportunities for future growth for those companies involved in the print procurement sector.
