First Kall Kwik Creaser Pays For Itself
The flagship Digital Business Centre in Cornhill in the City of London is the first Kall Kwik franchise to install a KAS Crease Matic 150, programmable card creaser from Ashgate Automation.
The flagship Digital Business Centre in Cornhill in the City of London is the first Kall Kwik franchise to install a KAS Crease Matic 150, programmable card creaser from Ashgate Automation.
"The Crease Matic has paid for itself in the first month.
We bought it just in time to pre-crease all the Christmas cards, which we print here digitally on our Xerox Docucolour 6060 press and we have not stopped for the last month.
The creaser is also being used by the three other KallKwik centres, which my family runs in central London," said Richard Adler, managing director of the Digital Business Centre.
The Cornhill branch had been thinking about investing in a card creaser for some while.
"We primarily wanted it to pre-score brochure and covers prior to booklet making because we had been doing them by hand.
The problem came with larger volumes or brochures that had to be turned round very quickly," Adler explained.
"We looked at another piece of equipment some while ago but it was too big an investment for what we needed.
We wanted something that fitted between a desk top machine and a high end suction fed creaser as typically we have to pre-cease from 50 to 1,000 covers up to 350gsm.
The Crease Matic is ideal because we can stream feed the cards and covers in by hand.
There is nothing to match it on the market for its competitive price/performance," he added.
He explained that one of his staff had read about the KAS Crease Matic, which is a hand fed machine but had the build quality that KAS has a good reputation for.
"I speak from experience because Ashgate sold us a KAS bookletmaker about 12 years ago and it is still going strong," he commented.
Adler went to the Ashgate stand at Digital Print World for a demonstration before placing the order.
"We put it to work immediately it came through the door.
The first job was a 3,000 run, which I was able to complete in just over an hour.
I doubt that we could even have attempted to do the job in time if we had done it by hand.
The Crease Matic uses a matrix style crease to prevent the toner and ink cracking when folding digitally printed cards and covers.
It can be programmed up to four creases per sheet on card from A5 to SRA3 and six page up A4.
Up to five regular creasing jobs can be programmed into the memory function and the crease positions can be edited should the layout of the job change.
It's definitely been a sensible investment and we've had the support of Ashgate.
They are very personable and nothing is too much trouble for them.
You don't get many companies like them these days," added Adler.
