Mediaport in Chesham, UK, a litho and digital printing, promotional merchandise and design firm, has bought a second Kasfold Sprint 3000 booklet maker.

The Kasfold is claimed to be able to produce 25,000-30,000 digitally printed booklets a month.

Scott Buckle, managing director of Mediaport, said: 'Two years ago we bought a second-hand Kasfold booklet maker from Ashgate Automation, which has served us well.

'However, having decided to upgrade the equipment in our digital printing department with a Ricoh Pro C900 digital production press, we wanted to increase the productivity of our finishing line.

'We went back to Ashgate because the Kasfold Sprint is well built and has proved reliable,' he added.

The Kasfold Sprint has a faster clutch and was supplied with an on-line trimmer.

'This has saved us 35 man hours a week because we previously had to take the job off the booklet maker and trim it on a guillotine,' said Bucklet.

'We produce a wide range of booklets from 48-page or 80-page A5 to 80-page A4 format.

'They are printed on a variety of stocks, which the Kasfold handles well,' he added.

Ashgate also installed a Duplo collator and an MB 35 folder at Mediaport.

'We now have an even more comprehensive digital finishing line, which means we can keep control of all our finishing in house, whereas in the past we may have outsourced some of this work,' said Buckle.

'We now have total control in house to finish work quickly, competitively and to a high standard,' he added.
