Atlantic Zeiser concluded the Emballage 2008 exhibition with a positive response to its new Omega 72i high-resolution inkjet printing system.

During the show in Paris, Atlantic Zeiser staged demonstrations that featured a complete web-to-web-system for narrow web applications, as well as high resolution digital printing and coding on various packaging materials.

The demonstrations showcased the Omega 72i, the Omega 36HD, a digital inkjet printer featuring drop-on-demand array jet technology for optimal print quality, and the Smartcure 72i LED UV curing device.

The new Braillejet printing system for Braille, the touchable font for blind people, was also on display during the show.

The Omega 72i printer has a print width of 72mm, and operates with the LED UV curing system, the Smartcure 72i.

This printer directly addresses the needs of packaging and label printers for flexibility, speed and cost-efficiency.

The LED technology used in the Smartcure 72i provides space and energy savings when compared to other UV curing systems, especially those using HG bulbs.

With a claimed maximum resolution of 360 dots per inch (dpi) x 360dpi and a 60-metre per minute production speed, the Omega 72i provides single-pass inkjet printing of primary and secondary packages, labels, tags and other applications for the packaging industries.

During Emballage, Atlantic Zeiser also showcased its Omega family of printers, offering flexible and application-oriented inkjet printing machines for print widths up to 210mm and up to 720dpi resolution.

The Omega 36 HD (high definition) printer is said to support complex encoding within the smallest space requirements.

Working in combination with Atlantic Zeiser's proprietary inks, the Omega 36 HD is claimed to ensure clear, crisp resolution of extremely small font sizes, foreign characters, graphics and logos.

Barcodes are produced with legibility and the result is high readability for all kinds of scanners and readers.

The Omega 36/36i is a digital inkjet printer featuring drop-on-demand array jet technology, and efficiently performs variable data printing on a variety of substrates.

It supports spot colour and full colour to match the customer's specific corporate identity requirements.

The Omega printheads achieve the quality of flexographic printing, enabling customers to partially replace other analogue printing technologies like flexo or screen printing, said the company.

The Omega 210 has a single head design for uninterrupted printing across 210mm width.

The combination of Atlantic Zeiser's high contrast inks and Omega inkjet heads are said to provide crisp print quality with no visible stitching lines for seamless printing across the printhead width.

Smartcure is said to embody eco-friendly features, including lower energy consumption compared with lamp-based systems, a 10 times longer lifetime, no ozone generation and lower cooling requirements.

The system is equipped with an instant on-off function to eliminate energy consumption during machine stops.

According to Atlantic Zeiser, the technical challenges of printing and personalizing packaging with Braille is an important industry issue.

The company's Braillejet personalizes and encodes for the packaging industry and pharmaceutical market.

The system's new micro-valve technology is claimed to enable fonts to be printed using UV curable high-viscosity ink and to achieve immediate fixation of the dots.

The result is optimum readability and exceptional dot clarity, added the company.
