Atlantic Zeiser exhibits digital printing systems

An Atlantic Zeiser product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Jun 29, 2010

Atlantic Zeiser showcased its Digiline Single Product with the full-colour Gamma UV print engine - products that are suitable for digitally printing labels, packages and documents - at Fespa 2010.

The Digiline Single Product offers an integration range of printing modules for digital printing, including the production of small batch sizes and the late-stage customisation of packages and products.

On display at Fespa was the Digiline Single Product 210 with a full-colour Gamma 70P UV print module, as well as a conveyer system featuring the Omega 70HD print module, which is said to be suitable for very short runs of direct product printing.

The company also demonstrated an application for printing on plastic rulers.

Ralf Hipp, vice-president of digital systems at Atlantic Zeiser, said: 'We are showing that on-screen, printing-focused applications can be covered today by industrial digital printing systems.

'The systems demonstrate the flexibility of our modular printing approach and the versatile integration options with different modules.

'The Digiline series provides increased productivity and flexibility, with low operating and consumption costs.

'This just-in-time production system reduces production and inventory costs for high-quality, four-colour products,' he added.

According to Hipp, Digiline systems bring one-stop shopping to narrow and single-product printing operations.

Their modular structure enables the integration of various print modules to create a customised production process.

The Digiline series demonstrated at Fespa included the Digiline Single Product 210 with a Gamma 70P UV printer.

The system is designed to print on a range of different product form factors, including 3D.

It supports product widths from 10mm to 210mm at speeds up to 90m/min.

Optional features include print verification, PDF/VTX, anti-counterfeiting and track and trace for a full small-batch, single-product marking system.

The Digiline Single Product 210 is claimed to simplify the process of late-stage package customisation for packages and products with high-quality print requirements.

According to the company, increased demand for late-stage package customisation is driven by a number of factors.

These include the need to reduce costs by operating with smaller production quantities to minimise storage capacities and just-in-time supply with short reaction times, particularly with packages marked with variable data, such as barcodes and product ingredient indications in different languages.

The Gamma 70P full-colour UV print engines incorporated in the Digiline series use UV inks manufactured by Atlantic Zeiser.

Incorporated in various conveying systems, it is claimed to provide offset-class printing quality and speed for the narrow printing market.

The variable drop capability of the Xaar 1001 print head is also said to consistently produce smooth tone graphics, fine detail, sharp text and barcodes.

A choice of UV curing systems is available to suit specific applications.

These include the company's new Smartcure LED UV curing system for temperature-sensitive products.

LED UV curing is suitable for thin materials that can be damaged by heat used in traditional label-based UV curing.

The Gamma 70P printer integrated in these systems is said to be suitable for pinning and wet on wet for sharp texts, barcodes, pictures and fine details and logotypes.

This single-pass four-colour (CMYK plus white) UV system combines an Atlantic Zeiser controller and data preparation software with Xaar 1001 greyscale print heads, producing a resolution of 360dpi.

Atlantic Zeiser's alliance with substrate manufacturer 3M was also featured at Fespa.

According to the company, the alliance adds a label stock provider that complements the Atlantic Zeiser product range for UV inkjet label printing.

During the event, Atlantic Zeiser showcased 3M's new digital label stock, which is designed specifically for UV inkjet printing.

Vera Witte, German product manager for 3M Performance Labels, said: 'This new UV digital label product, 3M 92913, is a matt-silver polyester that combines superior printability for UV inkjet and excellent durability to abrasion and chemicals.

'UV inkjet printing combined with LED curing offers significant advantages to converters,' she added.
