Calibrating Laser Marking Systems For Accuracy
The Alltec Laser Business Unit's newly developed laser calibration tool for laser marking systems is claimed to enhance the position accuracy during product marking many times over.
The Alltec Laser Business Unit's newly developed laser calibration tool for laser marking systems is claimed to enhance the position accuracy during product marking many times over.
With the system, the Alltec Laser Business Unit offers a system that completely registers and corrects all errors that might lead to position inaccuracies during laser marking, said the company.
Alltec claimed that with its system it has introduced the first laser marking systems worldwide that can be calibrated and, along with that, a system that not only simplifies and accelerates the customer's marking process but also reduces costs whilst providing high accuracy.
The new marking field correction tool is claimed to be suitable for packaging, electronics or automotive.
As components, products and parts that have to be laser marked become smaller, such as ICs, PCBs and semi-conductor parts, for example, companies have an growing demand for absolute position accuracy of the laser mark.
Alltec said that its laser calibration tool is suitable, whether marks have to be placed with high precision on large marking fields, or whether marks have to be placed with high precision on small marking fields, or on curved surfaces and planes that have to be marked.
The company also claimed that the marking job adjustment and consequently the installation and operation of the system are simplified and it provides less scrap and badly marked products.
The laser marking system is said to be easier and faster to install, whilst, for the first time, laser marking systems can be calibrated and customer's can be sure that what is programmed will be marked at the very position it should be marked.
The new tool may also be used for checking the marking accuracy at regular intervals, which is effective for certified companies and customers that have to change products and assure position accuracy afterwards.
Alltec explained that using a standard laser marking system (254mm lens, marking field (215mm x 300mm) position variances of up to 1mm may occur.
Using the same system with Alltec's new laser calibration tool, a position accuracy up to 10um can be obtained.
The programmed position of the mark matches the position on the product.
Ulrich Ofer, international sales director at Alltec, commented: "That unrivalled position accuracy is exactly what worldwide customers have long waited for.
Finally our effective new high accuracy marking field correction tool answers this - up to now - unsatisfied demand.".
