Paper Company Issues Profit Warning
UPM has warned that its operating profit for 2008 is expected to be weaker than that of last year.
The second one focuses on the acquisition by PaperlinX of Antalis' operations in Italy.
Antalis said that developments highlight its strategy, which is either to expand in to fast-growing countries and market segments, or to strengthen its presence in markets where it is a key player.
Axelium paper merchants in France distributes a large range of graphic papers for print and office papers, as well as products for visual communication.
Herve Poncin, managing director of Antalis Western Europe, said: "This acquisition will allow Antalis to increase its turnover in France and to offer its customers an even larger products and services range, notably in the office." In Italy, the transaction will allow Antalis to withdraw from a market where the company, despite the efforts of its teams, has not succeeded to reach the critical mass necessary to bring added-value to customers on a long-term basis, added the company.
The works councils associated with each operation have been informed about the projects, which will be submitted for approval to the each Finance Ministry in France and Italy and they will be subject to due diligence conclusions.
It is expected that the projects should be concluded within three to four months, said Antalis.
