MacDermid Autotype has claimed to have become the first manufacturer of screen printing films, direct emulsions and associated chemistry to introduce product packaging specifically designed to combat counterfeiting Based on a combination of ultraviolet visible inks and holographic labelling, the new packaging is claimed to be difficult to reproduce or copy and acts as a further guarantee of MacDermid Autotype's product quality

In addition, the company said that the new product packaging has been introduced to reflect the recent change in brand identity, with the 'Autotype in a box' logo, used for the last 20 years, being phased out as part of a process of a global rebranding programme under the MacDermid banner.

All screen print films delivered from January 1, including photo-stencil, indirect stencil and knife cut films, such as Autotype Capillex, Autotype Alphastar and Autotype Novastar, are being supplied using the new product packaging.

That will incorporate high security labelling, printed using UV sensitive inks and featuring unique holographic designs, which contain multiple embedded security devices, added the company.

Marketing Communications manager at MacDermid Autotype, Maurizio Fantato, explained: "Counterfeiting of our MacDermid Autotype branded products, especially in parts of Asia, is becoming a growing problem and has a potential impact on our reputation for quality and integrity.

Just as importantly, screen printers rightly have a high expectation of product performance, consistency and reliability when purchasing a MacDermid Autotype branded product and although counterfeit items may be cheap they are always inferior in all other respects." He added: "The new packaging will, therefore, help our dealers worldwide and the many tens of thousands of MacDermid Autotype product users to be certain that they are purchasing and using the genuine article, backed by our guarantees of quality and performance." To help dealers check that each consignment of screen printing films comes from MacDermid Autotype's manufacturing centre in the UK the company will also be supplying laser pens so that pack labels can be checked at the point of local distribution or use.
