Apago To Show JDF Oriented Products At Drupa 2004
Software developer Apago will introduce a series of new and updated products with support for JDF job tickets at the Drupa 2004 trade show in Dusseldorf, (Germany).
Software developer Apago will introduce a series of new and updated products with support for JDF job tickets at the Drupa 2004 trade show in Dusseldorf, (Germany).
The new products Apago will introduce at its stand in the drupa software innovation parc include Piktor v4.0 that lets pre-press and print professionals convert between numerous formats including Postscript, DCS, PDF, PDF/X and raster files, such as TIFF, JPEG and more complex formats such as TIFF/IT and Brisque CT/LW.
Previous versions of Piktor supported automation using one or more 'hot folders', each with an associated conversion setting.
Piktor v4.0 utilises JDF job tickets to dynamically configure format conversions, avoiding the need for complex cascading hot folder configurations.
PDF Enhancer v3.0 will add JDF job ticket support to this PDF assembly and re-purposing software.
It can embed or modify JDF job tickets, stored as XML inside a PDF file.
As in Piktor v4.0, JDF job tickets will replace hot folder configurations allowing more complex workflows with less confusion.
Also to debut at drupa, Apago will unveil a new server-based program for imposing PDF pages into printing signatures.
Using JDF imposition templates created in such programs as Creo Preps and Dynagram Dynastrip, Apago's imposition program can quickly and repetitively create complex impositions without the attention of a human operator.
"The key advantage of a JDF job ticket is that it contains all of the options needed to process any print file, all the way from the document creator to the bindery.
By integrating support for JDF job tickets into our software, our customers are able to easily integrate our products into their automated workflows," said Dwight Kelly, president of Apago.
"JDF is an exciting technology and will be the highlight of the Drupa 2004 show.
The promise of JDF is the seamless integration of systems from multiple vendors to produce a fully automated workflow," he added.
Apago, founded in 1991, is a privately held corporation that develops and markets workflow efficiency software primarily for the graphic communications industry.
The company has licensed its Postscript, PDF and raster imaging technologies to industry leaders including DuPont, Creo, Enovation and Dainippon Screen, among many others, and counts Time Warner, R.R.
Donnelley, Vertis, Brown Printing, R.E.
May, CMP Media, Ogilvy and Mather, and Saatchi and Saatchi Rowland, among its retail customers.
The company's headquarters are in Alpharetta, Georgia (USA), just north of Atlanta.
