Kodak Kit Makes Money For Photobox From Day-One
Photobox has installed a Kodak Nexpress 2100 digital production press with a fifth imaging unit and the Kodak Nexpress intelligent glossing solution plus a Kodak Nexglosser glossing unit.
The £2 million line also provides folding, slitting, two-station (mobile) glueing and trimming for complex multi-part mailers.
The process is more difficult than on-line, because the system has to cope with continuous registration errors - and the print quantities are much larger.
APS Engineering engineered a system that enables operators to restore registration and web tension in real time, either locally via individual manual stations, or remotely via a centralised touchscreen controller.
Equipped with 32-bit RISC processors and an on-board single axis position controller - which can be synchronised to speed or encoder tasks, the drive modules eliminate the requirement for costly PLCs or other standalone controllers.
The communicate with tension controllers and registration controllers via a fast RS232 duplex network.
