Luxumbourg Laminate Labelstock Plant Expansion
Avery Dennison Corporation's Fasson roll labelstock production and distribution facility at Rodange (Luxembourg) has been opened by Luxembourg's Grand-Duc Henri.
Avery Dennison Corporation's Fasson roll labelstock production and distribution facility at Rodange (Luxembourg) has been opened by Luxembourg's Grand-Duc Henri.
Also present at the ceremony was Luxembourg's Ministre de l'Economie, Jeannot Krecke, US Ambassador to Luxembourg Ann Wagner and Donald W Stoebe, the vice president and general manager of Avery Dennison Roll Materials Europe.
Luxembourg was chosen as Avery Dennison's prefered site as a high-volume European production and distribution hub for its Fasson-brand labelstocks in the late 1980s and with the help of a development grant from the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg production first started at the purpose-built plant at Rodange in 1990.
Today, the Rodange facility is home to what is claimed to be one of the fastest-running coaters for self-adhesive laminates in the world.
At two metres wide and 115 metres long, the custom-built second coating line has increased capacity at the plant significantly, added the company.
The coater is supported by a new fully-automated warehouse where all material handling is achieved using remote-controlled AGVs and which is said to benefit from an enhanced finishing area featuring four new slitters and a second fully-automated packaging line.
The new investment in the Rodange facility is Avery Dennison Corporation's biggest ever in Europe.
Rodange plant manager Michel Schutz said: "We urgently needed more capacity to meet our customers' needs for our most popular Fasson products.
The new coater gave us that, with its high-speed coating capability of 100 metres per minute.
It also frees up capacity on our other coater for more specialist, performance-critical products, and for more intensive R and D." He added: "Our new finishing area also enables us to extend the number of Fasson Exact and Fasson Exact Plus products we can offer our customers, which save time and cost by providing rolls to exact width requirements for a particular job, without waste." At the opening ceremony, Donald W Stoebe thanked the Grand-Duc for the Duchy of Luxembourg's development grant and underlined Avery Dennison's commitment to a continuing high profile for the Rodange facility as Roll Materials Europe's key high-volume manufacturing and distribution hub.
He commented: "This plant has always been, and will continue to be, a showcase for state-of-the-art adhesive coating and lamination.".
