Procaptura has named Artsystems as the exclusive UK distributor for its Kartoscan range of large format flatbed scanners.

Procaptura has named Artsystems as the exclusive UK distributor for its Kartoscan range of large format flatbed scanners.

New to the UK market, the scanners, measuring up to 1.8 metres x 5 metres, satisfy very specialist requirements in the scanning market due to the size and accuracy of the products.

They have already served the aviation, automotive and engineering industries, museums and national geographic institutes worldwide.

Procaptura has two models, the Kartoscan FB VLS and FB IV, both incorporating Autonaming and Raster orientation and tandem scanning (a simultaneous scan of one original while mounting another to increase in productivity).

Both models have true optical resolution from 125dpi to 1200dpi ensuring reproduction of the most detailed originals.

The Kartoscan FB VLS is suitable for scanning engineering drawings into a standard raster image within a tolerance of 0.002" (+/- 0.05mm) and is claimed to be the largest flatbed scanner on the market at 72"x196" (1800x5000mm).

The upright design provides an ideal working position for the operator and drawings are rolled onto the scanners and secured by vacuum suction controlled by the operator, which is particularly advantageous for those scanning very large drawings or maps.

Both products are of a tilted construction that provides a stable surface and ease of operation.

The Kartoscan FB IV incorporates a protective glass plate that ensures the safety of even the most old and fragile originals from damage while scanning.

It is also equipped with front and back lighting for transparency scanning and both scanners are controlled by Procaptura multi-functional Kartoscan software, installed in a powerful PC that is included in the package.

Sales director for Artsystems, Steve Hawker said: "Having the Kartoscan products on board is a fantastic opportunity for us to grow in this niche market sector.

It is a specialist product which needs specialist support, which we feel as a value added distributor we are well equipped to offer".

Einar Ek, marketing manager for Procaptura said: "I believe that the Kartoscan is a perfect high end solution for Artsystems since it does not compete with their other scanning products, but rather complements to the range of high quality products they already distribute within the CAD and GIS sector.".
