Cork commercial printer City Print has installed an Autobond Compact 74T to handle the growing amount of work produced at the site that requires laminating.
Laminator Increases Productivity And Stems Outwork
Reflecting recent trends in the UK industry for printers to bring laminating in-house, High Wycombe based printer Spot On has added an Autobond Compact 74T laminator to its finishing facilities.
"I've laminated post cards, a 24-page brochure, book covers and Christmas cards.
During the shift, runs have ranged from a few copies of a job that was being proofed to 30,000 copies.
We've certainly won finishing orders on the back of the Compact 74T, as well as winning the laminating work and it was because we were losing out to companies operating laminators that we decided to invest in this technology ourselves," said Geraty.

Autobond has developed a new range of laminating equipment, including thermal and water-based systems.
"Initially we thought we would purchase a secondhand machine but when we examined what was available on the market we realised that comprehensive training and back up support were vital.
This was why Autobond was so attractive.
The support staff at Autobond have been very helpful and the remote diagnostics facility on the Compact 74T means that Autobond's specialists can access our machine via the telephone line and provide advice if we are having difficulties.
Without that level of back up it would have been much more difficult.
I trained as a litho press operator and moved into print finishing 10 years ago.
Since forming Gemini with my wife Máire nearly four years ago, Ive obviously picked up an even more in-depth knowledge of the processes.
However, to purchase a laminator without an experienced operator has been a challenge.
Its a move that has paid off handsomely and we're now able to provide our customers with a much greater range of services," said Geraty.
Gemini, which employs five staff, offers a selection of finishing services geared to B2 printers, including die cutting, perforating, drilling, folding, shrink wrapping and guillotining.
In addition, the company employs skilled hand finishers.
"Autobond has certainly designed its laminators to be easy to operate and in the few months that weve had the Compact 74T weve significantly stretched the productivity we achieve.
We've handled stock from 130gsm to 400gsm without any problems during this time.
The laminator is generally run at 40 metres per minute, although it could go much faster and as the weeks go by we are achieving even greater output.
The flexibility of the laminator means that we can upgrade it to a perfecting version should we want to in the future," said Geraty.
