Derbyshire (UK) manufacturer Autobond has had three firsts following a rush of orders from around the world for its sheet-fed film laminators.

The first ever Autobond laminator to be purchased by a German printer left the Heanor factory this week, only a day after the company received its first order from Japan.

A Mini 52TP laminator is currently being built for a book printer in India, which will be the first Autobond model in that country when it is delivered later this month.

Autobond's managing director John Gilmore said: "I think 2004 was our best year since we were formed in 1978 and this has continued in to 2005, with every sign of getting busier.

We have customers in more than 140 countries but it is only in the last few months that we've won orders from Germany, India and now Japan.

We're obviously delighted to break in to those markets." The order from Germany is from a greetings card printer, which will soon be taking delivery of a Compact 74 TP, while the Japanese order is from a specialist printer that has requested a model that will lay down two strips of film on one side of the sheet and one strip on the reverse, in one pass.

Gilmore added: "That printer has a particular requirement to take 100gsm SRA2 sheets and laminate two nine-inch strips of film down the outer edges of the top side of the sheet and a nine-inch strip down the middle of the reverse side.

All our laminators can be purchased as single sided or perfecting models, and it was very straightforward for our engineers to produce a Compact 74 TP with the ability to have two separate rolls of film on one unwind shaft." During the coming weeks Autobond said that it is shipping laminators to the US, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and Holland.

"The UK continues to be extremely buoyant, with models soon on their way to Glasgow, Birmingham and Liverpool as well as Cork in Ireland.

Northprint was a fantastic show for us.

We had a printer from Manchester who wanted an Autobond machine really quickly, so he snapped up the MINI 52 TP H we were demonstrating on our stand," continued Gilmore.
