Artwork Systems is using its position as the owner of Enfocus certified PDF technology, which it has integrated into its Odystar, Artpro and Nexus systems, to launch the concept in packaging.
"We specialise in repro for packaging work and about 50% of this now goes through Artpro.
Some of this work is extremely complex, incorporating as many as 14 colours plus blind embossing, varnishing and foiling.
For this type of job you need a very accurate method of handling each element of pre-press and Artpro combines this with a high level of automation," said production systems manager Andy Lazarus.
Features such as Powerstepper enable fast production of stepped work, while the openness of the software has allowed a seamless integration with the company's existing systems, whilst Artpro can accept files in a wide range of formats, he added.
"We are receiving a growing number of increasingly complex jobs incorporating elements such as transparencies and without the right production software these can create a great deal of difficulty at the repro stage," commented Lazarus.
Mirage Studios operates a comprehensive range of pre-press equipment, and can provide wet proofs (including UV) on to the actual stock to be used on the job, as well as digital proofs.
The company takes work to film or plate stage, and can produce litho plates on its CTP Luscher 160 system up to 1,700mm x 1,340mm.
"The trend towards ever shorter deadlines continues, and Artpro has improved our versatility and our ability to respond quickly.
We have a huge amount of experience in producing repro for the packaging industry yet the help from Artwork Systems has been tremendous.
