Seminars Detail Packaging Digital File Handling
Following its two-day seminar in Belgium to launch PA:CT - certified PDF for the packaging market - Artwork Systems is to stage two one-day events in the UK.
Carr commented: "An increasing number of our clients, including leading retail groups, were sending us Artpro files because of the huge benefits it offers them in creating production-ready artwork.
However, you need Artpro software to work on an Artpro file and we often had to ask for the job in the design software it was originally produced in, generally Illustrator, Freehand or Quark.
That rather defeated the object." He continued: "However, since we installed Artpro a couple of months ago we have experienced a significant improvement in efficiency in the pre-press department and in the number of jobs we can process during a shift.

Artwork Systems Extends Artpro At LS Group
The latest investment in Artwork Systems equipment by the LS Group has taken the total number of seats of Artpro in use throughout the group to 17.
Artpro gives us enormous flexibility to alter any file with ease.
Virtually any fault with a file that we receive can be corrected automatically by Artpro in moments, so that it is then ready for plate output." Harrison Packaging uses a Fuji Rampage RIP and platesetter and Brian Carr said there was no difficultly in integrating the Artwork Systems software within the Fuji pre-press environment.
And he added: "Indeed, if we have a problem getting a file created in, for example, Illustrator to run with Rampage we can normally correct it immediately with Artpro." Artpro provides pre-flighting and editing facilities, including on-the-fly conversion to Hexachrome or other multi-colour systems, OPI swapping and font management, for instance.
All objects within the file can be checked for shape, colour, screening, transparency, blend mode and its relation in the file structure (compound groups and layers).
Each of those parameters can be changed.
The Artpro software, which runs on Mac OSX platforms, can create different versions of a file via hotlinks to databases and provides step and repeat capabilities.
The software incorporates Enfocus Certified PDF technology and links in to the world of JDF.
There is the ability to create registration marks and bar codes and to output to any PostScript or PDF device, whether for proofing, film or plate production or digital printing, added Artwork Systems.
Brian Carr explained: "The time required to generate proofs for some jobs has been reduced from a few days to a few hours with Artpro.
Artwork Systems has provided some excellent training at its Redditch headquarters and on the couple of occasions when we have had a query the technical support has been first class.".
