Nip Roller Measurement While Press In
Motion
The new Roller Nip Indicator (RNI) from Baldwin Technology Company has just been launched.
The new Roller Nip Indicator (RNI) from Baldwin Technology Company has just been launched It is said to allow printers a faster and easier way to measure the nip width of the rollers in the inking and dampening train
It indicates a dynamic value, which helps printers ensure optimal quality, measuring nip width for all types of rollers.
Whereas usually roller settings are determined by putting ink on the rollers, turning them and then measuring the width of the stripe, the RNI measures contact width using a thin, flexible sensor and displays results immediately in either millimetres or inches on an LED display, alerting the operator should the measurements fail.
As the measurements are taken on moving rollers and cylinders, the dynamic nip measurement gives a more accurate picture of conditions under operations than static measurements taken on a motionless press.
