Progress in every field, including the graphic arts, is dependent upon the continued infusion of new talent that brings fresh perspectives, creative ideas, high energy levels and the ability to see opportunity in the challenges ahead.
That is according to Baldwin chairman and chief executive officer, Gerald Nathe, who commented: "Harold Gegenheimer's commitment to the graphic arts and to innovation, was grounded in his strong belief that education stimulates and develops the very attributes necessary for progress." Nathe continued: "The 10 PGSF scholarships that Baldwin Technology is funding as the Harold W Gegenheimer Memorial Scholarships are in recognition of Harold's long-standing support for continuing education.
We at Baldwin hope the financial assistance that these scholarships provide to young men and women will enable them to develop career paths that will allow them to become successful contributors to future progress in the graphic arts." Ted Ringman, vice president of development at PGSF, said: "We are honoured at the Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation to again work with Baldwin to administer additional scholarships.
With these 10 additional scholarships this brings the number of scholarships at PGSF associated with Baldwin and honouring the Gegenheimer name and the family's commitment to education and sharing knowledge to 28." He added: "Currently over 240 students at 105 colleges are receiving financial assistance, ranging from US$1,000 to US$5,000 through PGSF.
Yet we have to turn down several thousand deserving applicants each year.
I would like to strongly urge companies, both printers and suppliers, to follow the example of Baldwin and help fund graphic arts education and training.
The future of our industry depends on finding, educating and then employing talented young people." PGSF is the largest US national independent scholarship effort for the graphic arts industry.
