Beacon Press, part of Pureprint Group based in Uckfield, East Sussex has printed 10,000 copies of the third edition of Mark Edwards' Hard Rain: Our Headlong Collision with Nature
Edited by Grant Gibson, the guide contained exclusive editorial content by UK design writers and commentators, including the Design Museum's new director Deyan Sudjic and GQ magazine's associate editor, Charlie Porter as well as a piece from Gibson himself.
As well as containing key details on all events and talks held across London, the festival guide included a cross-section of interviews with Tom Dixon, Ian Rudge, co-founder of 100% Design and the teams behind Designersblock, Scarlet Projects and Committee.
According to the festival team, Beacon Press was the ideal print partner for the London Design Festival in its quest to promote sustainable and environmental print production.
Festival director, Ben Evans, commented: "We appointed Beacon Press because of its award-winning quality, as well as its strong approach to sustainability, a value that runs strongly throughout the design community.
We want the London Design Festival to be a world leader in promoting sustainable, innovative design." The guide was printed on Era Silk paper supplied by James McNaughton Paper.
Era Silk has 50 per cent post consumer waste and is produced from recycled fibres collected in London.
Beacon Press sales and marketing director, Richard Owers, said: "One of our key education initiatives at Beacon is to encourage environmental responsibility in the creative fields.
Working with the London Design Festival is an excellent opportunity to do just that." As part of its close involvement with the festival, Beacon Press and James McNaughton Paper held an educational seminar at the Old Truman Brewery.
The seminar was attended by designers and originators and managed to bring light to the most common questions and concerns creative people have about sustainable design and print, said Beacon Press.
Richard Owers explained: "A major part of our environmental policy has always been to share the knowledge we gain as we search for a better way to print.
We can't emphasise enough the fact that environmentally responsible printing can be not only affordable but also superior in quality.".
