UK supermarket Asda has managed to get Santa Claus on board for its 'Pocket a Lower Priced Christmas' campaign, with a cardboard unit of Father Christmas.

UK supermarket Asda has managed to get Santa Claus on board for its 'Pocket a Lower Priced Christmas' campaign, with a cardboard unit of Father Christmas himself that pats its pocket, emulating the well known Asda television advertisement style.

The unit, which has a moving arm to recreate the 'Asda pat', is controlled by a series of motors mounted at the back of the 3D, five-foot cardboard structure.

Sarah Fothergill at Asda said: "Christmas is a crucial time of year and we felt it was important to carry through our message in a fun way that matches the atmosphere in-store.

The Asda 'pocket pat' is synonymous with the brand and Santa Claus epitomises the spirit of Christmas, whilst reinforcing the savings that customers can make in-store." Ian Carnazza, the managing director at Bezier Wakefield said: "We're proud to be providing Asda with this fun POP unit.

Our challenge was to print and implement Santa, whilst ensuring we adhered to brand values and the unit has been a great in-store success." The mechanical Santa was designed by Gratterpalm and designed and implemented by Bezier.

Units were sent out to 294 stores nationwide.
