The British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF) has congratulated Sheffield-based production house Proco, for its innovation and industry-leading standards.

BPIF deputy chief executive Cicely Brown acknowledged the company's progress at a launch party at the company's new premises in the regenerated Parkway area of Sheffield.

Proco not only marked the relocation but also a recent recruitment drive and acquisition of the new technology.

Brown said: "I find what Proco has achieved inspiring.

Its work in embracing variable data digital printing, particularly to boost the effectiveness of direct mail, plays an active part in promoting the value of the printing industry to today's economy.

Our industry is evolving and companies like Proco are leading that evolution through innovation leading to improvements in quality, value and customer service.

The UK print industry needs to embrace innovation to meet the challenge of lower priced foreign competition and Proco is a good example of companies that will help the UK succeed." As well as moving to a new 53,000 square foot site, June saw Proco's highest monthly turnover.

The move is said to ensure that Proco will remain responsive to the needs of its clients and allows it to accommodate its direct marketing division, HP Indigo 5000 Digital Press and the three Roland litho presses that it recently acquired.

Proco now employs 92 full-time staff with 24 further positions to be created before 2006 in order to respond to the expanding digital print market.

Graham Congreve, Proco's director of sales and marketing, commented: "We're not resting on our laurels.

These changes are going to provide even greater improvements in quality and service that can be passed on to our clients.

We've already seen a big increase in productivity.".
