Viscometers Tackle Re-Moist Adhesives Sticky Issue

In order to maintain the required quality many companies have installed Brookfield Viscosel viscometers to control and maintain the viscosity of these latest water-based systems claimed the company.

The Viscosel units were chosen as the result of technical advice given by the UK distributors - Fullbrook Systems.

Although those adhesives are inherently stable, the point of application is located close to the drying ovens and considerable viscosity variation can be experienced.

This variation, when left unchecked, gives rise to problems of adhesive build-up on the application roller, chillers, angle bars and folding ploughs.

Conversely, if over-diluted, the adhesive penetrated the paper or was too thinly applied to give satisfactory end-use results.

Users of the viscosity control system have commented that machines are being run faster with fewer stoppages for cleaning and that the results are absolutely consistent, no matter what the length of run.

The viscometers had also greatly improved the mileage figures obtained from the adhesive.

Further advantages of the viscometers were their ease of use, and swift clean up at the end of a production run claimed Brookfield.
