UK printer Blackmore has reached the finals of three environmental awards, as well as gaining three environmental certifications as well.

Blackmore has just won the south west regional contest of the British Chambers of Commerce's Green Award, with final results also to be announced on November 29 in London.

The company was also highly commended in the national Environmental and Sustainable Technology Journal's Environmental and Sustainable Management Award, competing against companies such as Tesco Stores and BT Group.

In addition, Blackmore has become one of three finalists for Dorset Business Awards' environmental excellence category.

Dorset Business Awards' environmental excellence category is sponsored by BP and entrants were asked to show evidence of a commitment to sound environmental good practice and a defined environmental policy.

Blackmore said it has been continually making efforts to reduce its environmental impact through changes within the factory and with its suppliers.

The company has invested in a more environmentally-friendly press operation, changing workers' shift patterns to accommodate car sharing and changing its waste and recycling, as well as using vegetable-based inks and environmentally-friendly paper.

As a result, Blackmore has achieved environmental recognition with the dual PEFC and FSC certification, as well as the ISO 14001 Environmental standard.

Aubrey Aviss, Blackmore's sales director, said: "We have been working extremely hard to be at the forefront of environmentally-friendly print.

It doesn't stop here as we are constantly working on future plans to ensure our impacts to the environment are minimal.".
