Blackmore pushes for EU eco-management award

A Blackmore product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Oct 24, 2008

UK printing company Blackmore has committed itself to achieving success in the EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme known as EMAS, which is an aware only a few UK companies have achieved.

EMAS is a voluntary market-based scheme designed to encourage better environmental performance from all types of businesses which only a handful of organisations have achieved.

A guide by 'The Print Business' listed printing companies holding environmental certifications showed out of 500 companies listed, more than 250 were accredited to ISO140001 but only eight companies were accredited to EMAS.

EMAS provides organisations, such as Blackmore, a label for voluntary environmental management.

The accreditation is compatible with the international standard for environmental management systems, ISO 140001 but also goes much further and looks into employee involvement, legal compliance and communication with stakeholders.

Aubrey Aviss, the sales director of Shaftesbury-based Blackmore, is part of the team driving the EMAS scheme through the company and he commented: "EMAS accreditation is seen as a badge of credibility in the industry and a symbol of excellence, which is what we strive to deliver at all times." An environmental team has been established at Blackmore to commence the project, which will set out the processes and schedule involved.

Blackmore said that EMAS will also provide the company with a systematic framework for setting targets, and measuring, monitoring and reporting on performance.
