Document processing and mailing systems provider, Bowe Bell and Howell is to acquire the Postal Technologies Division of Opex Corporation.
Opex Corporation is a provider of digital mailroom automation and document image capture systems An agreement in principle between the two companies provides for the addition of Opex Postal Technologies' range of mail sorters and software products to the Bowe Bell and Howell product portfolio

When the acquisition is completed, Bowe Bell and Howell will own the rights to the PTI Model 45 letter sorter, the Opex MPS 17 flats sorter, the RJ7 and RJ10 Reject Processors, the Pure Optics imaging system and various software packages, including Maxisort sorting software and the Purevision MLOCR platform.
In addition, Bowe Bell and Howell will assume all Postal Technologies' maintenance and licencing agreements.
The company added that it will be able to offer customers the Opex MPS 7 multi-purpose sorter.

Inkjet System Personalises Direct Mail Pieces
Bowe Bell and Howell will launch its Printegrity inkjet system for mailpiece personalization on stand 421 during the Graph Expo 2006 exhibition in Chicago (USA) from October 15-18.
Bowe Bell and Howell will also licence Opex OCR technology.
Bowe Bell and Howell said that during the transition period, the companies will work closely together to continue to provide uninterrupted telephone support, parts and maintenance service to customers.
The company added that all service requests will continue to be handled through the Postal Technologies offices in Irving, Texas (USA) and customers can place service calls and have access to technical support using the same telephone numbers they have always used.
David Stevens, president of Opex Postal Technologies, said: "Ever since we announced our intention to exit the business, our number one goal has been to find a company that would continue to provide the same world-class service and support that our customers have come to expect.
With Bowe Bell and Howell acquiring Postal Technologies, we know our customers will be well cared for and, in fact, they will have more product choices and access to greater resources than before.

The Model 45 is a reliable, well-known sorting platform that fits a variety of sorting needs.
It can be configured as a barcode sorter, or a fully-functional MLOCR." And he added: "We are also very excited about the Pure Vision MLOCR system, which accommodates multiple OCR engines to achieve the highest possible read rates.
We look forward to continuing to support these technologies in the market with all the rights of the original equipment manufacturer backed by the customer support model that Opex Postal Technologies customers have grown accustomed to.".
