Boston Print Buyers has just produced its first annual print buyers conference, where over 300 delegates filled 14 sessions, most with standing room only.

Led by Margie Dana, the Boston Print Buyers organised event brought together almost 30 exhibitors, from paper suppliers, to national and local printers, as well as such manufacturers as Adobe and HP, together with print buyers from throughout New England and beyond.

Seminar sessions covered paper, PDF, direct mail, press checks, variable data printing, digital publishing, and other subjects.

The sell-out luncheon keynote session provided by Frank Romano of RIT discussed print buying trends and confirmed those trends through audience feedback to questions about industry practices.

Print buying is now national and even international and print buyers are more involved in other media than ever before, was one important point of the presentation.

Boston Print Buyers (BPB) caters to those who purchase or influence the purchase of printing.

The association hosts regular dinner programmes that combine informational presentations with networking.

BPB members are said to enjoy online benefits - a members-only forum, a member directory and BPB Member News, a monthly, e-newsletter.

BPB said it attracts senior-level personnel from many fields, such as financial services, higher education, health care, manufacturing, publishing, retail, advertising, and graphic design.

The BPB advisory board includes representatives from JP Morgan, Analog Devices, United Way of Massachusetts Bay, MIT Publishing Services Bureau, John Hancock Funds and LLC, amongst other businesses.

Margie Dana, who was a corporate print buyer for 15 years, said she founded her first business in 1997 to shine a light on the printing industry.

She now produces a free weekly e-newsletter, Print Tips.
