Paper Knives Help Bookletmaker Beat Competition
A paper trimming knife developed and manufactured by Burcas is helping print finishing equipment producer, Watkiss Automation to conquer fierce competition from Japan and Europe.
For such large, high visibility application, quality is key - particularly at the cut-edge where even the slightest tear can result in debris, causing the print to smear.
This is why Cropper Converting calls on the re-grinding and blade-straightening expertise of Midlands-based Burcas to keep its guillotines - some of which have 4m blades - operating at their very best.
John Morgan, from Burcas said "To provide our customers with the quality they expect and demand we have to keep all our blades at optimum sharpness".
"As we deal with a range of materials it is not possible to tell in advance exactly how often we will need to regrind the guillotine blades, even though we operate a system of moving from softer to harder materials to extend blade-life".
"We therefore have a stock of guillotine blades for each machine, which Burcas regrinds for us regularly - ensuring that we can maintain optimum quality without loss of productivity".
Each week one of Burcas vans arrives at James Cropper's Lake District site to collect the latest set of guillotine blades which need regrinding and to return the previous week's cargo, re-ground, re-straightened and ready for use.
James Cropper Converting has been using the services of Burcas for almost 20 years, because, in addition to having the specialist equipment necessary to re-grind its long guillotine blades, Burcas also offers customers access to its team of technical experts who can provide advice on a wide range of knife-related converting queries.
