Tony Pitchford, who has retired from his position as strategic business director for Europe at Rohm and Haas, has been elected vice president of the British Coatings Federation.

He will take over in May from outgoing BCF president, Nigel Bond, who is sales director of Dulux Trade Paints, ICI.

With many years of experience in the chemicals industry in both paint and powder coatings, Tony Pitchford has played an active part in the BCF since 1986, having been a board member since 1999 and also holding the position of chairman of the BCF Powder Council since 2001.

Pitchford commented: "In an increasingly competitive global market, BCF has a vital role to play, supporting members' interests in Europe, through its international lobbying activities, and at the same time maintaining a strong UK presence in the political and commercial arena.

Being elected to the presidency of the BCF is a great honour and, although Nigel will certainly be a hard act to follow, I am very much looking forward to the challenges ahead.".
