UK national energy and environmental consultancy, Energy 2000, has teamed up with the British Coatings Federation (BCF) to develop two cost-saving initiatives for the coatings industry.

UK national energy and environmental consultancy, Energy 2000, has teamed up with the British Coatings Federation (BCF) to develop two cost-saving initiatives for the coatings industry.

According to the BCF, with energy costs soaring to their highest ever levels, the first issue being addressed is energy buying and conservation.

BCF members will be provided with the opportunity of 100 per cent funding for an energy site survey, to identify and address areas for improvement, which will lead to cost savings.

The consultancy is also helping the BCF to investigate the potential for a coatings CCL agreement, an energy intensity climate change contract for the coatings industry.

Currently, companies pay the full rate, but by joining a new agreement, they could receive up to 80 per cent reduction on the current levy.

Moira McMillian, chief executive of the BCF, said: "We believe a coating CCL agreement, which would provide companies in the sector with significant savings, has a great chance of success.

By encouraging our members to conserve energy, this will also be of great benefit to the environment." She emphasised that Energy 2000 could also assist BCF members in developing a cost-saving campaign, through energy procurement, energy conservation and monitoring and targeting.

They are the three areas that can achieve the highest cost reductions.
