BCF's Coatings Audit Tool Helps Self-Regulation
With UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown's new emphasis on self-regulation the Coatings Care Audit Tool, has been launched at the right time.
Together with BCF chief executive officer, Moira McMillan, and other industry representatives, Pitchford attended a meeting with the UK's Department of Trade and Indistry (DTI) Energy Minister, Malcolm Wicks, to discuss the combined impact that the Climate Change Levy, rising energy costs and the imminent threat of energy shortages are having on the coatings industry.
Pitchford began his career in the sector after graduating as one of the first students to take a degree combining chemistry and business studies at Loughborough University, after which he spent three years in a laboratory at Albright and Wilson before making the move in to market development.
His subsequent career reflected the many mergers and acquisitions which have been such a feature of the coatings industry in last 30 years, during which time Pitchford worked for ICI and Holdens, both of whom he represented on BCF committees, as well as Ferro Corporation.
Welcoming his appointment Moira McMillan, commented: "Tony really understands the breadth of the industry, in addition to powder coatings and industrial paints, he has worked in heavy duty high performance coatings, as well as the paint pre-treatment industry.
His international perspective is also particularly welcome as we participate in today's global market and deal with an increasing amount of European legislation." Tony Pitchford added: "Nigel Bond will certainly be a hard act to follow, but there is plenty to do and I am looking forward to playing my part on behalf of the industry.
I am also delighted to say that we have persuaded Nigel to remain actively involved in the BCF, so we will continue to be able to benefit from his extensive knowledge and experience.".
