BAPC offers ratings scheme for UK print companies

A British Association for Print and Communication product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Aug 17, 2009

Many UK print companies could be overpaying their business rates, but a British Association of Print and Communication (BAPC) ratings scheme is being launched to help them get some money back.

The problem goes back to 2005 when current business rates were set, based on property values in 2003.

The dip in prices since then is well documented but the rateable values are still assessed on those figures until the next valuation in 2010, according to the BAPC.

The association added that a business believing its rateable value (based on the 2003 figure) to be too high can appeal for a rate rebate and reduction.

The BAPC has even brought in an agency to do this on behalf of any member.

For a single flat fee of GBP395 plus VAT, the agency will inspect and value the property (regardless of size), apply for a rate reduction and take it to appeal on behalf of the client.

The only further charge will be a percentage of any savings made.

The service has been introduced at a critical time as all appeals against the 2005 rateable value must be made before the next valuation in 2010.

Sidney Bobb, BAPC chairman, said: 'In these traumatic times, we must do all we can to minimise costs and maximise savings opportunities.

'This scheme can help our members recover potentially thousands of pounds that they would never see again.

'We hope as many printers as possible will take full advantage.
