Millnet, the digital print and photocopying supplier to City of London institutions, has bought a Dynic BP300 Perfect Binder from BABS International to speed up the finishing of perfect bound documents.

The BP300 sits alongside one of the firm's print engines, a Xerox 2060.

Collated sets are taken from the delivery point as they arrive and are fed straight into the binder in a 24-hour, seven days-a-week operation for runs up to 1,000 copies.

"It has helped us win work and is allowing us to create new ideas for customers.

Previously, we used to send work out for binding and it could take four to five hours before it came back.

Now, in the time someone else has made ready we can produce the goods here," said John Walker who manages the operation.

He added that another big plus of the Dynic BP300 perfect binder is the quality of work it turns out, with customers having remarked about how clean and strong the documents are compared with those done on conventional hot melt machines.

"We also find it so easy to use.

We haven't had any specialised training but all of our operators can jump to it very quickly.

We have over 80 people working here at different times so most of the machinery we use has to be as plug and play as possible," commented Walker.

The company said the system it is directly relevant to the colour digital print work that is done on site.

A lot of the documents produced are mailed out to individuals and have personalised content.

The BP300 binds different size books within a run without any problem, which means the company can start filling envelopes within minutes.

"We've had 120-page documents signed off at 2.00am and they've been printed, perfect bound and ready to ship at 8.00am thanks to the BP300," said Walker.

"We're discovering new possibilities all the time and it is becoming part of the business solution we offer.".
