The 1,000th paper and poly wrapping machine to be delivered by Buhrs, a 4000 system, will be installed by DIAM, the logistics division of French company, La Redoute, in May.

In addition to other customers, DIAM provides all of the mailing services for Redcats, a home shopping group with 14 million customers in France The contract represents the fourth paper and poly wrapping system that DIAM has received from Buhrs in Zaandam

The company said that the 4000 Series is known for its versatile functions and flexibility to ensure productivity.

Job settings can be made whilst the system is still running because the feeders automatically synchronise with the base unit and can be controlled using a database and the Buhrs System Controller.

Buhrs introduced its first wrapping system in 1986, when the Polywrap was unveiled at the Drupa exhibition.

That was followed by Enveloper, which was the company's first system that was also capable of performing paper wrapping, in 1991.

In 1994, MTR, claimed to be the first mechatronic system on the market that was fully servo-controlled, was developed in cooperation with two Dutch universities.

Adrian van der Klooster, the president of Buhrs, said: "Today, our portfolio of products enables us to meet the needs of small and extremely large mailing houses alike, as well as companies that specialise in distributing products.

This means we are in an excellent position to be able to continue growing at the current pace.".
