An excellent example for others to follow." Established eight years ago, the National Recycling Awards aim to recognise innovation and excellence in recycling on a nationwide scale over the previous 18 months.
They are open to any organisation, community group or company that plays an active part in the recycling process, or is involved in the production chain of recycled products.
Jane Rayner, Emap environmental group editor and chair of the judging panel, said: "There's no doubt that the recycling industry has a big part to play in the drive to understand how we in Britain can best reduce the impact on our environment and prevent the waste of valuable resources.
As chairman of the judging panel, I'm really excited by the sheer level of innovation and enthusiasm within award entries, as well as the potential many of the campaigns show to be implemented elsewhere in the UK, further helping other organisations to meet recycling rates." The second award for Cambrian Printers saw the company receive the accolade of Welsh champion by the Green Apple Awards - gaining the highest honours in the commerce and industry Wales category and establishing the firm as a national example of environmental good practice.
The award was presented to Carrick Willkie, sales director of Cambrian Printers, by Dr David Bellamy, at the Tower of London.
Carrick commented: "Receiving the Green Apple Award is a major boost for us as a company.
We've worked hard on developing our environmental practices and systems and knowing that there were over a thousand entries really shows that we're ahead of the game." Commenting on the winning entry, the Green Award judges said: "This expanding print company has chosen to raise awareness and its profile by developing an environmental management system.
This is enabling it to minimise waste, make substantial energy savings, and target a greener customer base that prefers to work with environmentally conscious suppliers." The Green Apple Awards is now in its 12th year and recognises, rewards and promotes environmental endeavours and initiatives at all levels.
Completing the hat-trick of awards, Cambrian Printers was named the best large small-medium sized employer (SME) at the Ceredigion Business Awards - recognising the firm's contribution to the local economy in mid-Wales.
Commenting on behalf of the judges, Idris Williams of Antur Teifi, said: "Cambrian Printers is a large, successful business at the cutting edge of its industry.
It has demonstrated a strong commitment to conserving the environment, whilst remaining at the forefront of technological advancements".
Robert Read, chairman of Cambrian Printers, commented: "The past fortnight has been fantastic for the company - receiving such recognition with these awards is testament to all the hard work of the staff here.
Without the company's collective commitment to improving our environmental and business practices we wouldn't have received such recognition on both a local and national level.".
