Canon Europe yesterday announced that it will collaborate with Heidelberg to develop connectivity between Canon's Imagepress C7000VP digital press and Heidelberg's Prinect Digital Print Manager.

Canon Europe yesterday announced that it will collaborate with Heidelberg to develop connectivity between Canon's Imagepress C7000VP digital press and Heidelberg's Prinect Digital Print Manager The company believes that the collaboration will focus on creating hybrid offset and digital workflow for commercial printers

Canon Europe claimed that being poised to revolutionise digital printing, its Imagepress C7000VP digital press provides consistent print speed at 70 pages-per-minute (ppm) for A4-sized output in colour, regardless of the weight of the media, that combines productivity with a level of quality to complement offset.

Prinect Digital Print Manager, a part of Heidelberg's Prinect workflow management system, allows for the integration of digital print systems in to a unified offset and digital workflow, therefore optimising printing processes and systems capabilities, added Canon.

Masaki Nakaoka, chief executive of Canon Inc, said: "Canon is focused on moving in to commercial printing.

Through the connectivity with Prinect, we can provide high quality businesses for commercial printing customers." Dr Peter Leu, vice president of product management with Prinect, added: "With the integration of Canon's new Imagepress C7000VP digital press in to the Prinect workflow, Heidelberg will add even more flexibility for printers to integrate their complete production.

In this way, Heidelberg is leading the path integrating print shop processes and thus cutting production costs." Based on open industry standards using JDF and PDF, the connectivity will allow production data to flow between the Imagepress C7000VP digital press and Prinect system, giving users the ability to view and better control jobs, manage production costs and optimise system usage, said Canon.

The connection between the Imagepress C7000VP digital press and the Prinect Digital Print Manager will take place shortly after Imagepress C7000VP deliveries commence, added Canon.
