Canon UK has launched the latest version of its print management software, Uniflow Output Manager 3.0, designed to meet the printing needs of the professional print markets and offices.

Canon UK has launched the latest version of its print management software, Uniflow Output Manager 3.0, developed by NT-ware and designed to meet the printing needs of the professional print markets and offices The system is claimed by Canon to provide a complete print management system that allows businesses to streamline their workflow processes and control costs

The company believes that whether a company's fleet is centralised or not, Uniflow Output Manager 3.0 provides a central point of control to manage printers across the whole organisation.

Rules-based printing is claimed to ensure more effective utilisation of devices so the right job will be printed on the right printer.

Amongst the features the software includes is the ability to load balance larger jobs across multiple devices, whilst PDF workflow module enables server-based PDF creation of jobs.

The copy shop module provides central management of all copiers, printers and PCs from the information desk or counter in a copy shop, claimed Canon.

A central print queue is said to allow the print room complete control allowing operators to manage their output devices according to workloads.

The system enables them to receive work across the network as well as from remote users, whilst it introduces an improved user interface that further simplifies the usability of the software, added Canon.

Said to be suitable for corporate and print-for-pay businesses, document submission, editing and output processes can be further streamlined by utilising the job ticketing function that provides clear and efficient job submission and minimises order entry times, whilst reducing the potential for errors.

The new 'pre-print' module allows users to preview final document layout and properties via thumbnails, which means that print room operators can undertake final edits at individual page, chapter or entire document levels, before going to print - increasing flexibility and reducing lead times.

To assist with the approval process even further, users are now able to submit print jobs remotely through the software's internet gateway option, which offers new features, such as the ability to store documents and job folders on-line and accept instant PDF previews generated on-screen as part of the ordering process, said Canon.

Uniflow Output Manager 3.0 integrates with Adobe Acrobat and provides a PDF-based workflow, whereby print providers can configure their own customised workflows within Uniflow Output Manager 3.0.

Basic JDF support is said to facilitate integration with other print management systems, which also conform to the emerging industry standard.

Nikki Richardson, professional solutions marketing manager for Canon Business Solutions, Canon UK commented: "By streamlining production workflow processes, we believe we can help print providers to increase productivity, efficiency and service levels to users.

For Canon, ease-of-use, versatility and scalability are crucial.

We want to offer systems that address customer challenges and offer significant and quick return on investment, whilst continuing to deliver tangible benefits for the future.

We have worked closely with NT-ware to ensure that the improvements made to Uniflow Output Manager 3.0 address the real needs of our professional print customers.

This is a powerful management tool, which is highly configurable, it enhances business and production processes." Uniflow Output Manager 3.0 is claimed to work with Canon's MEAP technology to enable businesses to allocate both print and copy charges, to specific cost centres within an organisation, directly from Canon's IR multi-functional devices.

In addition, for companies that have a large client base, including lawyers, tax offices and accountants, there is now functionality available for users to search for a specific cost centre, which allows them to manage output costs by client more effectively, believes Canon.

The charge-back system can also be integrated with swipe card technologies, or even finger print recognition systems, added the company.
