Canon UK has completed its first installation in the UK of its Imagepress C1.

Canon UK has completed its first installation in the UK of its Imagepress C1.

Zap Digital Print, which received the BAPC business of the year award, is based in Guilford (UK) and specialises in digital printing services.

Dave Brooks, a director of Zap Digital Print, said: "The Imagepress C1 has truly exceeded our expectations.

We took one look at the engine at Ipex and knew that it would benefit our business exponentially.

The image quality is outstanding and this will enable us to produce more for both our new and existing customers and to really differentiate us in the marketplace.

Traditionally, we have outsourced such jobs as book covers because digital just didn't give us the quality that was needed." He continued: "Now, we can produce these in-house and at a lower cost.

Sheet size is also an important factor.

As we can put larger and more varied stocks through the Imagepress C1, such as textured and coated stock, we can offer a more varied service, such as producing personalised A4 pocket folders.

In the end, our customers are the ones who will truly benefit.

We can offer a better and more flexible service at very competitive prices." First introduced at Ipex 2006, Canon's Imagepress C1 is claimed to provide high quality output that has the look and feel of offset to give businesses a competitive edge.

Imagepress's C1 is also said to have the capacity to provide colour output quality that conforms to industry standards due to the colour management tools designed by X-rite, specifically for the Imagepress products.

Through a management process, the Imagepress C1 has Pantone certification, which enhances its ability to produce spot colours, as well as a self-correction mode that allows the software to correct any deviance in colour performance after each page printed.

Pete Daniels, product marketing manager for professional colour at Canon UK, said: "Imagepress signifies Canon's entrance in to the high-end, high-quality digital colour market.

Zap Digital Print was the first customer in the world to sign up for this engine in April and we are delighted that the installation has met its expectations - this is testament to the high standard that the Imagepress offers." He continued: "Through our partnership with X-rite, we are able to offer our customers revolutionary technology and unsurpassed colour management tools that will enable them to offer high quality output that is second to none and further helps them to differentiate their businesses within the professional print arena." Following installation of the Imagepress C1, Zap Digital Print is looking to further extend its services and is currently discussing the possibility of buying the Imagepress C7000VP.

Zap was founded 18 years ago by Dave Brooks and Geoff Sober and offers a variety of digital printing services.

Zap has a customer base across the UK and in Europe, initially specialising in copying and reprographics and since growing and developing.
