Fadil will lead a specialist team of five digital print consultants, with over 84 years of collective print industry experience, in areas such as colour management, content management and PDF workflows.
He and his team will work closely with printers and corporate reprographic departments (CRDs) to provide them with pre-sales and post-sales consultation, whilst offering bespoke combinations of hardware and software to help them reduce costs and increase productivity, said Canon.
The team will also advise CRDs and commercial printers on current issues, such as integrating hardware and software to make the transition from traditional offset to digital printing.
In addition, Fadil and his team will demonstrate how workflow systems can help customers achieve time and return on investment savings.
Previously, Fadil was with Canon for five years, as a digital print consultant, providing consultancy for the professional print arena and creating and project managing workflow models for customers.
Prior to working at Canon, he came from a traditional litho print background at the Guardian and Observer newspapers, where he managed the display advertising production team and all areas of page creation and planning for the newspapers and magazines.
Ben Milford, head of professional at Canon Business Solutions, said: "It's great to have Altan on board.
He has a deep understanding of the issues that commercial printers face and I am sure they will greatly benefit from his experience in the strategic development of their businesses.
A large part of Canon's success depends on developing the consultative side Canon's professional print offering and we are confident in Altan's ability to head up this key part of our business." Commenting on his new appointment, Fadil said: "This is a great opportunity for me and I am delighted to take on this role.
I will be looking forward to working closely with both the professional print team and our customers to help them achieve their business objectives of cost-cutting and increased ROI, through constant innovation.".
