Canon and X-Rite (GretagMacbeth) have revealed details of an exclusive colour management system for the Imagepress C1.

Canon and X-Rite (GretagMacbeth) have revealed details of an exclusive colour management system for the Imagepress C1 The digital colour printing and proofing engine's claimed image quality, colour gamut, consistency and reliability, has been coupled with the X-Rite i1 Process Control to create what is claimed to be the most versatile colour technology in its class on the market today

The X-Rite i1-Process Control system is also claimed to be the first colour management system to be integrated in this class of machine, which illustrates Canon's confidence in the capability of the print engine.

Canon added that the system allows users to provide proofs to Fogra 27 and 39 standards, as well as accurate Pantone spot colours.

The Imagepress C1 is said to be suitable for proofing and the short production of personalised print runs.

Canon UK, professional solutions marketing manager, Nikki Richardson, said: "The Imagepress C1 illustrates perfectly Canon's commitment to the graphic arts market by teaming-up with best-in-class partners to provide complete systems that deliver exceptional performance.

The combination of a high-quality and extremely stable print engine, Imagepress Server Q1 and an unique, integrated colour management system, makes the Imagepress C1 peerless in terms of its versatility, which is proven by the variety of companies that have already invested in the system." The i1-Process Control software, developed specifically for the Imagepress C1, is said to ensure complete harmony between the print engine and colour tools.

The process control combines the best X-Rite i1 software components within an easy-to-use interface, added the company.

Included in the system is Fogra Media Wedge CMYK, which allows users to verify their output against the ISO 12647-2 international standard.

Canon has also included a library of Pantone EC colours, developed specifically for CMYK digital print devices, within the Imagepress C1's i1-Process Control.

X-Rite vice president of imaging and media, Iris Mangelschots, commented: "We are delighted to be in partnership with Canon and involved with the flagship Imagepress brand, which has created a lot of excitement in the industry since it was launched.

We worked closely with Canon to develop this exclusive version of our i1-Process Control software to provide something that's extremely user friendly without compromising functionality.

We are dedicated to developing easy and efficient digital workflows in which true-to-life colour can be reproduced and controlled." And Canon's Nikki Richardson added: "Historically digital technology has not offered high quality and colour-accurate output at this price point.

The Imagepress C1 process control system gives customers the confidence to deliver benchmark quality at a competitive price through a digital colour printing and proofing engine that integrates easily in to their existing production processes.

As a result, customers can enjoy flexible production capacity and allocate jobs to the correct production technology, based on economies of scale and run lengths and not based on quality of output required." Canon believes that the Imagepress C1 process control system emphasises the important role of the company's new printer generation in pre-press markets to provide consistent colour and reliable digital proofs.
