Canon said the software enables page content from various sources, digital and analogue, to be combined, manipulated, imposed, printed and then finished in a variety of formats, from A4 single-sided documents to perfect-bound or saddle-stitched booklets.
The company added that it developed its own PDF editing technology, rather than using Adobe Acrobat plug-ins, to give iWPPM users complete PDF content editing capabilities.
iWPPM has four integrated functions - job content editing, job image editing, annotation and variable data printing tools.
Files can be imported through scanning, hot folders, or drag-and-drop, whilst iWPPM's export function can convert imported data in to PDF, JPEG, TIFF and BMP file formats.
In addition, iWPPM's variable data printing tool is claimed to allow users to produce personalised documents for customers, without the need to purchase additional software.
Furthermore, the hot folder-driven workflow automates the preparation of customer documents prior to output, making the printing of customer files more efficient and freeing up operator time.
Canon UK's professional solutions marketing manager, Nikki Richardson said: "We are dedicated to providing our professional print customers with best-in-class systems, either through partnerships, or in this instance, Canon-developed products." She added: "We believe that iWPPM is one of the most versatile and user-friendly systems currently available." The software embodies automatic creep adjustment, to ensure that image position remains constant regardless of the booklet's thickness, as well as a function that automatically calculates a booklet's spine width based on the paper stock used.
At the same time, iWPPM is enhanced further by iW Print Job Manager (iWPJM), which is a digital print management tool that enables the control and management of print queues to multiple JDF-enabled engines, added Canon.
As a result, users are able to manage print job scheduling through an interface that allows them to manage all aspects of print production.
The iWPPM system is part of the Canon Workflow Programme, which aims to give the company's print customers an all-encompassing, tailored package of services, support and systems and to make it easier for them to find the workflow product that best suits their needs.
