Canon doubles its 12-colour LFP range for the photographic and fine art sectors with two new imagePROGRAF printers.

Canon UK, world leader in digital imaging technology, announce launch of the 44" imagePROGRAF iPF8100 and the 60" imagePROGRAF iPF9100 large format printers (LFP), which are designed to produce cost effective, high quality output in the demanding photographic and fine art sectors The new models double Canon's 12-colour fine art offering, which also includes the recently launched 17'' imagePROGRAF iPF5100 and 24'' imagePROGRAF iPF6100, and highlight its commitment to the graphic arts market

The imagePROGRAF iPF8100 and imagePROGRAF iPF9100, which have an 80 GB hard drive, deliver the company's latest 12-colour ink system featuring Canon's LUCIA pigment inks.

Employing upgraded versions of the four monochrome inks (black, matte black, grey and photo grey) together with red, blue, green, cyan, photo cyan, magenta, photo magenta and yellow, the printers achieve smooth, natural images with minimal graininess.

They also reduce the occurrence of "bronzing", a phenomenon in which printed colours take on a metallic hue when viewed at an angle.

Canon's LUCIA inks also achieve better ink adhesion for improved scratch resistance.

Both the imagePROGRAF iPF8100 and iPF9100 printers support Canon's next generation "Kyuanos" colour management technology for Windows, to deliver output colour suitable for different viewing conditions such as fluorescent lights, incandescent lights, or sunlight.

Each model also includes easy-to-use colour calibration to help ensure output consistency and accuracy.

Both new imagePROGRAF models use Canon's proprietary FINE (Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering) print-head technology and dual print head design, featuring a total of 30,720 nozzles (2,560 nozzles per colour).

The new print heads help the imagePROGRAF achieve a maximum resolution of 2400 x 1200 dpi, while the new print head delivers a uniform four picolitre droplet size.

Each printer features automatic "clogged nozzle" detection to help reduce wear-and-tear on the print heads and maintain excellent print quality.

Both machines have the user-friendly imagePROGRAF Printer Driver, which includes Digital Photo Front-Access, a software application that allows users to view and arrange multiple images from a digital camera and import them into multiple image editing software applications, such as PosterArtist or Adobe Photoshop.

PosterArtist 2007 - sold separately - allows users to easily create professional-quality posters and design layouts.

"Together with Canon's portfolio of fine art and photographic media, the iPF8100 and iPF9100 printers will be key players in the large format photographic printing market for professional photographers and digital artists," comments Ben Milford, Head of Professional Print Marketing, Canon Business Solutions.

"Our market share in the LFP sector has grown significantly throughout 2007 and the launch of the iPF8100 and iPF9100 demonstrates our continued investment in our LFP portfolio".

"The imaging technologies engineered into our latest generation of imagePROGRAF LFPs - new print heads, reformulated monochrome inks and a large hard drive - will help give our customers a competitive advantage".

The imagePROGRAF iPF8100 and imagePROGRAF iPF9100 will be available from November and December 2007 respectively.
