Canon Enhances Variable Data Print
Capability
Canon UK has claimed to have strengthened its variable data system capability through an agreement with digital imaging technology company Bitstream and its Pageflex systems.
The deal is now said to give users of Canon's digital production equipment, such as the Imagepress C7000VP, the ability to provide customers with customised communications through variable data printing (VDP) and web-to-print store fronts The system is also claimed to allow for cross-media marketing campaigns, such as personalised URLs, microsites and HTML email

Bitstream, which said it first introduced variable data software 10 years ago, is now an alliance partner within the Canon Workflow Programme.
According to Canon, the agreement means that its UK customers have access to Bitstream's Pageflex portfolio of products.
The Bitstream range includes Pageflex Persona, a desktop variable data application that is said to generate variable communications in print and HTML email formats.

Pageflex Storefront is described as an online portal that can be customised to allow customers to order personalised documents from a branded store front.

The Imagepress products provide exceptional image quality and are perfectly suited to provide cutting-edge personalised print campaigns.

They transform print specialists in to multi-media communications providers." The Canon Workflow Programme includes alliances and partnerships with a number of suppliers, including, Objectif Lune, Directsmile, EFI and X-Rite.
The programme also includes exclusive software, such as the JDF-compliant workflow software, iW Prepress Manager (iWPPM), which was developed over a three-year period and has a total of 82 patents, as well as NT-ware's print management system, Uniflow Output Manager.
