Creo-GMA Allliance Aims For New Products

GMG, a developer and marketer of professional colour management systems and imaging and software technology specialist Creo have entered into an agreement to develop new colour management proofing products.
The first machine to be developed from this alliance will be a co-branded front end to drive the Creo VerisT proofer, which begin to be field tested in August 2003.
The Veris provides high-resolution proofs that Creo believes set a new standard for inkjet proofing quality.
Based on Creo-developed Multi-Drop ArrayT inkjet imaging, the Veris is claimed to produce a controlled stream of precisely formed, precisely placed drops at 1500 x 1500 dpi, for high-quality, repeatable proofs that are accurate predictors of the finally printed job.
It is said to provide image repeatability and predictability, especially when compared to other inkjet technologies that use larger drops of ink, with less precision of placement.
The front-end will be based upon the GMG Colorproof system, consisting of a colour engine, profile editor and creator, a RIP and an output module for the Veris.
CMG said the core element of Colorproof is the 4-D colour transformation engine, which is designed to assure the highest possible contract proof quality on a variety of output devices.
To calibrate the system, all standard colour targets can be automatically measured, using a spectrophotometer.
Four dimensional colour profiles can be stored, which makes the system, together with some linearisation tools, highly suitable for remote-proofing applications too.
GMG has more than ten years of experience in integrating Creo's Iris proofers, which is widely used in many segments of the graphic arts industry.
Both companies believe the alliance will bring inkjet proofing to a new level.
"The joint solution will redefine image quality, repeatability and predictability of digital contract proofing.
We are very excited about this alliance," said Brad Palmer, Creo's vice president of inkjet printing.
"Both our solutions are aimed at the high-end quality-conscious contract proofing market, fulfilling the most discerning demands - for example, in packaging," added Robert Weihing, CEO of GMG Weihing.
