First Checkprint Scholarship Student Wins Award

Security printing specialist Checkprint has given a young student a flying start with her business management and enterprise degree course.

Security printing specialist Checkprint has given a young student a flying start with her business management and enterprise degree course.

The company has awarded a scholarship to Ramandeep Kaur Dhiman (18), who has just started her course at the Leicester Business School at De Montfort University.

Checkprint, based in Hinckley (UK) has given Dhiman a cheque for £250 and is also offering her the opportunity to spend a week's placement at the company during a university holiday week.

To qualify for the scholarship, she had to submit a 500-word essay entitled 'What makes a successful entrepreneur?'.

Judges looked for an appreciation of entrepreneurship and an enthusiasm for enterprise, an awareness of current business affairs as well as motivation, commitment, ambition and excellent writing skills.

"This is the first year we have offered this scholarship, which aims to support young, talented entrepreneurs.

The scholarship reflects our commitment to working in partnership with other organisations and individuals to put something back into the community," explained Martin Ruda, managing director of Checkprint.

"I am very excited to have won the Checkprint scholarship.

It's a great opportunity for me as I have the chance to gain a lot of experience.

I'm really looking forward to work experience at Checkprint and also to my course at Leicester Business School," explained Dhiman.

"This scholarship illustrates the strong relationship De Montfort University has established with this successful entrepreneurial business.

We hope the commitment and enthusiasm shown by Checkprint will be a leading example for other local business leaders," added Ged Pearson, director of the university's campus enterprise opportunities scheme, which co-ordinates a number of enterprise initiation and development activities.
