Checkprint has won a Queen's Award for Enterprise after developing a range of software for cheque handling The UK secure print specialist has been honoured for outstanding achievement in innovation - one of the three categories in the annual Queen's Awards for Enterprise

Winning the award gives Checkprint, which is part of the Tall Group of companies, the status of 'enterprise champion'.

Checkprint director Martin Ruda said: "The award recognises companies that have demonstrated significant commercial success through innovative products or services.

Our business is built on printing special cheques and credits but while the use of the cheque is declining we have thrived due to our ability to position ourselves in the technology market with our range of software.

We have pro-actively adapted our range of products and services to suit the increasing need for banks, building societies and other businesses, to develop their own secure printing capabilities.

As they move from paper to electronic payment methods we have moved with them rather than lose their business.

By being innovative we have not just survived in this business but have also been incredibly successful." Checkprint has steadily developed products over the past five years, with one of its systems helping customers reduce administrative costs by virtually eliminating the manual handling and storage of cheques.

The company offers a one-stop shop for its combined secure print and electronic document distribution.

Its range includes secure digital print-on-demand software, a stock management and replenishment programme, image and codeline capturing software, and an e-remittance advice module that confirms successful BACS transmission and distributes an advice note by email, fax or print.

The annual Queen's Awards are split into three categories - outstanding achievement in international trade, innovation and sustainable development.

Checkprint has already collected a handful of awards over recent years.

It is shortlisted in the innovation category of this year's Leicestershire Business Awards having won the Success Through People Award in 2002 and been a finalist the previous year.

It also made it in to the Sunday Times Top 50 'best SME companies to work for' in 2004 and won two of the categories at the Regional Business Awards in 2003, which took it through to the finals of the National Business Awards in that year.
