The images of cheques make identifying queried items so much simpler." She added that the system enables Blackwell to meet the banks' and regulatory authorities' requirements for companies to keep records of all payments to and from the bank.

Martin Ruda, managing director of Checkprint, said: "The Banking Assistant uses a combined magnetic ink character recognition reader and image scanner to capture the codeline details and amounts of all cheques being deposited." Ruda continued: "Once all cheques have been imaged through the scanner and validated, a credit slip can be printed automatically.
That slip is then passed through the scanner which captures the details and the image.
The information is added to the bank listing which is printed out while the batch of cheques is saved within the system ready to be recalled or printed if there are any queries." The Banking Assistant Professional, which is claimed to integrate with companies' own accounting systems, allows users to define fields for tracking batches and individual deposits.
It is available in versions to suit organisations of all sizes with differing levels of levels and types of image scanners tailored to individual requirements.
Checkprint added that it can also offer dual sided image capture, an automatic feed, high speed scanner and a network version.
Checkprint, which pioneered the Banking Assistant with its technology partner Solchar, is part of the Tall Group of Companies also provides Blackwell with a comprehensive support and maintenance service.
The Tall Group is a printer of special cheques and credits and also specialises in electronic document distribution and secure print software solutions.
It said it works for many of the UK's leading banks, building societies and financial institutions.
