New News International Plant Gets Power Protection

A Chloride product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Apr 30, 2008

News International's new newspaper printing plant, which is believed to be the world's largest, has received power protection systems from Chloride.

The facility houses what are claimed to be some of the most advanced full colour printing systems.

They are protected by a 30MVA substation and energy centre that have been built alongside the building to power the twelve MAN Roland 500 presses.

Chloride said that maintaining power requires a reliable, uninterruptable power supply (UPS) system to guarantee maximum uptime.

An optimum power protection system was provided with the installation of three Chloride 3 phase 400kVA 90-NET UPS units.

They are claimed to be flexible, reliable and have enhanced environmental credentials because of their conversion efficiency.

Digital vector control, in double conversion configuration, enables 90-NET to eliminate, in real time, all overloads, frequency variations, transient disturbances, brief interruptions and power outage incidents, added Chloride.

The News International installation features Chloride's Life.net remote monitoring and diagnostics service.

Using supervisory software, Life.net keeps the back-up power systems under continuous surveillance and reports their operational status back to the manufacturer's constantly manned UK service centre, said Chloride.

The performance monitoring of the installed UPS systems and the mains supply provides real-time awareness and diagnosis of more than 100 separate operational parameters.

Chloride added that it is an essential requirement for maintaining high power availability, as any anomalies are immediately identified and remedial action triggered.

Life.net is said to provide a benefit to facilities managers as it means Chloride effectively takes responsibility for the health of the UPS.
